Material Violence

Material Violence is an ongoing series of multimedia textiles that weave together student stories, quotes from legislation (past and present) and school personnel, and social media comments to condemn the violence faced by queer students. The project seeks to help students around the U.S. understand the roots of the discriminatory violence at their schools and educate them about the harms of queerphobia and the beauty of queer identities.

The below panels parallel text from the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and the recent law H.B. 1096 that seeks to erase queer and trans identities. The panels are interspersed with first-hand stories of harassment faced by queer students.
